Overview (内容)

With the increase in use of Complementary Alternative Medicine such as Chinese Medicine, medical litigation against practitioners have also been on the rise. Many of such incidents are however, avoidable through proper documentation, understanding of herb-drug interaction and respecting patient confidentiality. We have invited four professionals from different fields: Medicine, Law, Insurance and Chinese Medicine, to share their experience and address some of the most common medicolegal risks and issues faced by Chinese Medicine Practitioners, and ways to avoid them. The main objective of this webinar will be to assist Chinese Medicine Practitioners in improving current practice and preventing future medical litigation or wrongdoing.

This webinar will cover:

  • Sharing of real-life legal cases 
  • Common Drug-herb interactions
  • Proper medical documentation, history taking, medical management
  • What to do when a patient decides to complain against you?
  • How does medical insurance works?

Target audience: Chinese Medicine Physicians, Students and Clinic owners.

Dr Nathaniel Wong

Dr. Wong is a western medical doctor trained in Europe who has a particular interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). He has published numerous papers on high impact international journals regarding the use of Chinese Medicine (CM) for disorders, including Asthma and Hypertension. He also has a particular interest in the use of CM for neurological cases, in particular neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease and Dementia.

Mr Chooi Jing Yen

Chooi Jing Yen is a criminal defense lawyer. His team obtained an acquittal for Dr Wee Teong Boo of his rape and molest charges in the Court of Appeal, and also obtained an acquittal for Dr Alex Yeo Sow Nam who was accused of molest. Jing Yen has represented doctors in SMC disciplinary proceedings, and is also a highly regarded commercial litigator having been mentioned in Benchmark Litigation and AsiaLaw Profiles. His commercial experience includes insurance claims, personal injury litigation and medical negligence lawsuits.

Mr Leong Kaiyan

Mr Leong is a Financial Services Manager from Great Eastern Life. He has been in the Finance industry since 2016 and has helped people from all walks of life, as well as small local businesses to global MNCs manage their risk and financial planning needs.

Mr Derrick Soh Bing Quan

Physician Derrick Soh is a Chinese Medicine Practitioner who has been practising for the past 8 years. Physician Soh graduated from Nanyang Technological University and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.
